Nothing here is a trick — every one is a rule working exactly as written. It reads like a loophole because you learned the rules by watching other golfers, and other golfers are confidently wrong. Your opponents very much included.

Free Relief: The Free Drop You Keep Not Taking

You do not have to be touching the cart path — interference with your stance or swing is enough. And once you have dropped, a second condition can earn you another one.
